The mission of the city attorney's office is to prosecute criminal, code, and ordinance violations and represent the city in non-insurance civil litigation. This office also works to provide legal counsel to the City Council
, City Manager
, and department heads to assist them in accomplishing the goals of the city and limit the liability of the city.
The City of Rawlins attorney’s office provides legal advice to the City Council, city manager, and department heads relating to:
- Contract law
- Human resource law
- Public hearing and public records
- Police power
- Planning and zoning and procedural rules for governing bodies
- Statutory and constitutional limitations
The attorney’s office also prosecutes criminal offenses, city ordinance violations, and represents the city in civil litigation. The city attorney’s office attends city board meetings and advises boards on requirements of the Administrative Procedures Act.
The attorney’s officer represents the city in contract negotiations and appears on behalf of the city in appeals of administrative decisions of city staff. The office also represents the city in workers compensation and labor board litigation.
